Journalling

Journalling, in terms of resilience, is the practice of regularly writing down thoughts, emotions, and experiences as a means of self-reflection, self-expression, and personal growth. It can help individuals develop resilience by providing a space for processing challenges, identifying strengths, and cultivating a positive mindset.

Here's a children's activity guide for emotional development and resilience through journaling:

Activity: Resilience Journaling

Age Group: 6-12 years old

Instructions:

       1. Begin by explaining to the child that resilience journaling is a way to reflect on their experiences, emotions, and thoughts. It helps them build resilience by exploring their strengths, challenges, and growth.

       2. Provide the child with a notebook or journal and writing materials such as pens, pencils, or markers. Encourage them to personalize their journal with drawings or decorations if they wish.

       3. Explain that resilience journaling can be done at any time they feel comfortable. It can be a daily practice or whenever they want to reflect on their experiences.

       4. Encourage the child to write or draw about their experiences, both positive and challenging. They can reflect on situations where they showed resilience, overcame obstacles, or learned important lessons.

       5. Instruct the child to write about their emotions and thoughts related to these experiences. Encourage them to explore how they felt, what they learned, and how they grew from those experiences.

       6. Remind the child that resilience journaling is a safe space for them to express their thoughts and emotions without judgment. Encourage them to be honest and open in their journaling.

       7. Suggest different journaling prompts to help them get started, such as:

              - Write about a time when you faced a challenge and how you overcame it.

              - Reflect on a situation that made you feel proud of yourself and why.

              - Describe a difficult emotion you experienced and how you managed it.

              - Write about a mistake you made and what you learned from it.

              - Reflect on a person who inspires you and why.

        8. Encourage the child to review their journal entries regularly. This allows them to reflect on their growth, track their progress, and reinforce their resilience.

       9. Remind the child that they can always seek support from trusted adults or professionals if they need help understanding or managing their emotions.

       10. Support the child in using their resilience journal as a tool for self-reflection, growth, and building resilience.

Remember, the goal of this activity is to help children develop resilience and emotional well-being through journaling. Encourage open communication and provide a safe and supportive environment for them to explore and express their thoughts and emotions. Enjoy resilience journaling with the children!
