Here's a children's activity guide for emotional development and emotional regulation through Emotion Art:

Activity: Emotion Art

Age Group: 6-12 years old

Materials Needed:

       - Art supplies (such as paper, markers, coloured pencils, crayons, paints, etc.)

       - Optional: magazines or printed images, scissors, glue

Instructions:

       1. Begin by explaining to the child that Emotion Art is a creative way to express and explore their emotions visually. It allows them to communicate their feelings through art and can be a helpful tool for emotional regulation.

       2. Encourage the child to choose their preferred art supplies and find a comfortable space to create their Emotion Art.

       3. Explain that the child will be creating different art pieces to represent various emotions. They can choose to focus on one emotion at a time or create a series of artworks representing different emotions.

       4. Encourage the child to reflect on a specific emotion they would like to express through their art. Ask them to think about how that emotion feels, looks, and affects them.

       5. Instruct the child to use their chosen art supplies to create a visual representation of the chosen emotion. They can use colours, shapes, lines, and any other artistic elements to convey the emotion.

       6. If desired, the child can also use magazines or printed images to create collages that represent the chosen emotion. They can cut out images or words that resonate with them and arrange them on their artwork.

       7. While creating their Emotion Art, encourage the child to reflect on their emotions and the process of expressing them through art. Ask them to think about how the art-making experience makes them feel.

       8. After completing each artwork, have a discussion with the child about the emotions they represented. Ask them to describe the choices they made in their artwork and how those choices relate to the emotion. Encourage them to share any insights or reflections they gained through the art-making process.

       9. Display the Emotion Art in a special place where the child can revisit and reflect on their creations. This allows them to observe and connect with their emotions over time.

       10. Encourage the child to continue exploring and expressing their emotions through art. Remind them that art can be a powerful tool for emotional regulation and self-expression.

Remember, the goal of this activity is to help children develop emotional regulation skills through artistic expression. Encourage them to embrace their creativity and use art as a means of understanding and communicating their emotions. Enjoy the Emotion Art activity with the children!
