Title: Assertiveness Role Models - Inspiring Social Skills


Objective: To promote social development and assertiveness skills among children through exploring and learning from assertiveness role models.


Materials Needed:

       - Pictures or descriptions of assertiveness role models 

       - Paper and writing utensils


Instructions:

       1. Introduction (5 minutes):

              - Gather the children and explain the purpose of the activity: to learn about assertiveness by exploring and discussing assertiveness role models.

             - Emphasize the importance of expressing thoughts, feelings, and needs confidently and respectfully.


       2. Setting the Ground Rules (5 minutes):

              - Establish a set of ground rules together with the children.                         Examples may include:

                             - One person speaks at a time.

                             - Listen attentively to others.

                             - Use kind and respectful language.

                             - Encourage everyone's participation.


       3. Role Model Exploration (15 minutes):

              - Introduce the concept of assertiveness role models. Explain that these are individuals who demonstrate assertiveness in their actions and communication.

              - Show pictures or provide descriptions of assertiveness role models. They can be famous figures, historical figures, or even people known to the children personally.

              - Discuss the qualities and behaviours that make these individuals assertive role models. Encourage the children to share their observations and thoughts.


       4. Role Model Reflection (15 minutes):

              - Distribute paper and writing utensils to the children.

              - Ask them to choose an assertiveness role model that inspires them the most.

              - Instruct them to write or draw about the qualities and behaviours they admire in their chosen role model.

              - Encourage them to reflect on how they can incorporate these qualities into their own lives.


       5. Sharing and Discussion (15-20 minutes):

              - Invite the children to share their reflections on their assertiveness role models.

              - Facilitate a discussion where they can discuss the qualities and behaviours they admire and how they can apply them in their own lives.

              - Encourage them to ask questions and offer support and encouragement to one another.


       6. Reflection and Conclusion (5-10 minutes):

              - Summarize the key concepts discussed during the activity, including assertiveness and role models.

              - Ask the children to reflect on what they have learned about expressing themselves confidently and respectfully through assertiveness role models.

              - Discuss practical ways they can apply these skills in their daily lives.

              - Express appreciation for their active participation and willingness to explore assertiveness role models.


Remember, the goal of this activity is to help children develop their assertiveness skills and build confidence in expressing themselves. By exploring assertiveness role models, they can learn from positive examples and apply those qualities and behaviours in their own lives.
