Story Re-Telling

Here's a children's activity guide for social development focusing on active listening through story re-telling:

Activity: Story Re-Telling

Materials needed: Storybooks or printed stories.

Instructions:

       1. Explain to the child what active listening is - the practice of fully focusing on and understanding what someone else is saying.

       2. Discuss the importance of active listening in effective communication, comprehension, and building connections with others.

       3. Choose a storybook or a printed story that is suitable for the child's age and interests.

       4. Read the story aloud to the child, ensuring that they are actively listening and engaged in the narrative.

       5. After reading the story, ask the child to re-tell the story in their own words. Encourage them to include key details, main events, and important characters.

       6. Provide support and guidance as needed, helping the child recall specific parts of the story and organizing their thoughts.

       7. Encourage the child to use descriptive language and engage their imagination while re-telling the story.

       8. As the child re-tells the story, actively listen and show interest in their version of the narrative. Ask questions to clarify their understanding and encourage them to elaborate on certain aspects.

       9. Reflect on the story re-telling experience together. Discuss how it felt to actively listen and re-tell the story, the challenges faced, and the different perspectives that emerged.

      10. Consider repeating the activity with different stories, allowing the child to practice their active listening and story re-telling skills with a variety of narratives.

Remember, the purpose of this activity is to promote social development, active listening, comprehension, and effective communication through story re-telling.

Encourage the child to actively participate, respect the original story while adding their own interpretation, and enjoy the process of engaging with narratives. Enjoy the growth and deeper connections that come from active listening in story re-telling!
