Interview Practice

Here's a children's activity guide for social development focusing on active listening through interview practice:

Activity: Interview Practice

Materials needed: Paper and pens.

Instructions:

       1. Explain to the child what active listening is - the practice of fully focusing on and understanding what someone else is saying.

       2. Discuss the importance of active listening in effective communication, understanding others, and building connections.

       3. Introduce the concept of interview practice, where participants take turns being the interviewer and interviewee.

       4. Explain the roles: the interviewer asks questions, and the interviewee responds while the interviewer actively listens.

       5. Provide a list of interview questions or have the child and participants come up with their own questions.

       6. Pair up the child and another participant. If there is an odd number of participants, you can join as an interviewer or facilitate the activity.

       7. Encourage the child and the participants to take turns being the interviewer and interviewee. Remind them to actively listen to the responses and ask follow-up questions.

       8. After the interview, gather everyone for a debriefing session. Discuss the experience, how it felt to actively listen and respond, and what they learned about effective communication.

       9. Reflect on the interview practice together. Ask the child and the participants how they felt during the activity, what strategies they used to actively listen, and what they learned about the importance of active listening.

       10. Consider repeating the activity with different interview questions or scenarios to continue practicing active listening skills.

Remember, the purpose of this activity is to promote social development, active listening, effective communication, and empathy through interview practice.

Encourage the child and the participants to actively participate, respect each other's ideas, and enjoy the process of listening and engaging in meaningful conversations. Enjoy the growth and deeper connections that come from active listening during interview practice!
