Which safety discussions generated the most interest or thoughtful responses?
In which situations has your child shown increased confidence or independence?
How has your child demonstrated an understanding of seeking help when needed?
Which safety skills seem most embedded in everyday life?
How has your child's understanding of online and offline safety developed?
There are no right or wrong answers.
The purpose of this reflection is to help you recognise growth that may not always be obvious when viewed day by day.
Progress Through the PIES Stages
Reflect on your child's current stage.
🌱 Early Years (0–4)
Children begin developing an awareness of trusted adults, familiar routines and simple safety expectations. They learn basic rules that help keep them safe and start recognising when they need support from others.
🔍 Discovery Years (5–7)
Children become more aware of the world around them. They begin recognising hazards, following safety procedures, identifying trusted helpers and developing confidence in communicating concerns or asking for help.
🚀 Exploration Years (8–11)
Children develop increasing independence while strengthening their ability to recognise risks, make safe choices and understand personal responsibility. They begin applying safety knowledge to more varied situations and environments.
🌟 Independence Years (12–15)
Young people demonstrate growing confidence in assessing risk, identifying sources of support and making informed decisions. They develop a deeper understanding of both physical and digital safety and how their choices affect themselves and others.
🎓 Young Adult Years (16–18)
Young adults increasingly take responsibility for their own wellbeing and safety. They recognise risks, evaluate situations thoughtfully and respond appropriately while balancing independence with responsibility.
Consider how your child is developing within their current stage and whether they are demonstrating increasing confidence, independence and capability.

Celebrating Achievement
Reflect on the achievements that stand out most during this area.
Consider:
🌟 What has your child achieved that makes you proud?
🌟 When has your child demonstrated good judgement or awareness?
🌟 Which safety concepts were most clearly understood?
🌟 How has your child grown in confidence when discussing safety?
🌟 Which badge activities generated the most engagement or curiosity?
🌟 Where have you noticed increased independence or responsibility?
Achievement should not be measured through comparison with others.
For one child, a significant achievement may be confidently asking for help when needed. For another, it may be recognising risks independently, communicating boundaries clearly or developing responsible online habits. Progress can often be seen through growing confidence, awareness and good decision-making in everyday situations.
Achievement may include:
effort
perseverance
awareness
confidence
responsibility
Every step forward deserves recognition.
⭐ Emerging Strengths
Throughout this area, your child may have demonstrated particular strengths.
Consider:
Which skills appear most naturally?
Which activities were completed with enthusiasm?
Which experiences were repeatedly chosen?
Which achievements stand out most?
Which areas showed the greatest confidence?
Which experiences generated curiosity or excitement?
Which skills would your child happily practise again?
These observations may help identify future interests, talents and areas for further exploration.
Remember that strengths do not need to be exceptional to be valuable. Small interests often grow into lifelong passions when they are recognised and nurtured.
Learning Summary
Using your completed Evidence Records, write a summary of your child's development within this area.
Example:
Throughout the Personal Safety badges, my child developed greater awareness of both everyday and unfamiliar situations. They became more confident discussing safety, identifying trusted adults and recognising situations where support might be needed. They showed increasing understanding of personal responsibility, online safety and emergency preparedness. Activities involving problem-solving and safety scenarios helped develop good judgement and confidence. Over time, I observed greater independence, stronger communication skills and an improved ability to think carefully about risks and consequences. These experiences have helped build a solid foundation for safe, responsible participation in everyday life.
Looking Ahead
Consider what you would like to explore next year.
You might think about:
new interests
new experiences
further challenges
developing confidence
increasing independence
You may wish to explore:
greater independence during travel and community activities
more advanced first aid, emergency preparedness or safety skills
deeper exploration of digital citizenship, online responsibility and technology use
Remember that development is a journey rather than a destination.
The aim is not to achieve perfection, but to continue providing meaningful opportunities for growth, enjoyment and discovery.
Parent Reassurance
Every child develops differently. This Summary Badge is an opportunity to celebrate progress, not perfection.
By reflecting on your child's experiences and achievements, you are creating a valuable record of their educational journey and recognising learning that has taken place throughout everyday life.
The goal is not to compare your child to others. The goal is to recognise, record and celebrate growth.
