Looking Back

Use the completed badges, Evidence Records and Journey Journal entries to reflect on your child's development.

Consider:

  • How has your child's ability to organise themselves changed over time?

  • Which organisational habits seemed most useful or meaningful?

  • How has your child responded when plans changed unexpectedly?

  • What responsibilities can your child now manage more independently?

  • Which planning or organisational tools worked best for your child?

  • Where have you noticed increased confidence, responsibility or self-management?

There are no right or wrong answers.

The purpose of this reflection is to help you recognise growth that may not always be obvious when viewed day by day.

Progress Through the PIES Stages

Reflect on your child's current stage.

🌱 Early Years (0–4)

Children begin recognising routines, following simple instructions, helping tidy belongings and participating in everyday organisational activities with support.

🔍 Discovery Years (5–7)

Children start managing simple responsibilities, following routines more independently and recognising that planning and organisation help daily activities run smoothly.

🚀 Exploration Years (8–11)

Children develop greater independence, use organisational systems, manage personal responsibilities and begin reflecting on what strategies work best for them.

🌟 Independence Years (12–15)

Young people take increasing ownership of planning, prioritising, goal setting and managing responsibilities while adapting to changing circumstances.

🎓 Young Adult Years (16–18)

Young adults develop effective personal systems for planning, organisation and self-management, supporting increasing independence across many areas of life.

Consider how your child is developing within their current stage and whether they are demonstrating increasing confidence, independence and capability.

Knowledge Developed

Throughout this area, your child has had opportunities to develop knowledge of:

  • How planning and preparation can support successful outcomes

  • Different ways to organise time, tasks and responsibilities

  • The purpose of routines, schedules and organisational systems

  • Factors that influence priorities and decision-making

  • Strategies for adapting when situations change unexpectedly

These examples may help when completing your PIES Evidence Record.

Skills Practised

Throughout this area, your child has had opportunities to practise:

  • Organisation

  • Planning

  • Time management

  • Goal setting

  • Self-monitoring and reflection

These examples may help when completing your PIES Evidence Record.

Understanding Gained

Throughout this area, your child has had opportunities to develop understanding of:

  • Why preparation often reduces stress and confusion

  • How organisation supports independence and confidence

  • That responsibilities require planning and follow-through

  • Why flexibility is important when plans change

  • How personal choices and habits influence outcomes

These examples may help when completing your PIES Evidence Record.

Celebrating Achievement

Reflect on the achievements that stand out most during this area.

Consider:

🌟 What has your child achieved that makes you proud?

🌟 Which organisational skill has developed the most?

🌟 When has your child shown increased independence?

🌟 What goals or responsibilities have they successfully managed?

🌟 How has your child responded to setbacks, challenges or changes in plans?

🌟 Which habits have become part of everyday life?

Achievement should never be measured through comparison with others.

For many children, success may be seen in small but meaningful steps such as remembering responsibilities, completing tasks independently, managing routines more confidently or showing greater resilience when things do not go according to plan. These forms of growth are just as valuable as larger achievements.

⭐ Emerging Strengths

Throughout this area, your child may have demonstrated particular strengths.

Consider:

  • Which skills appear most naturally?

  • Which activities were completed with enthusiasm?

  • Which experiences were repeatedly chosen?

  • Which achievements stand out most?

  • Which areas showed the greatest confidence?

  • Which experiences generated curiosity or excitement?

  • Which skills would your child happily practise again?

These observations may help identify future interests, talents and areas for further exploration.

Remember that strengths do not need to be exceptional to be valuable.

Small interests often grow into lifelong passions when they are recognised and nurtured.

Learning Summary

Using your completed Evidence Records, write a summary of your child's development within this area.

Example:

Over the course of the Personal Organisation badges, my child became increasingly confident in managing routines, planning activities and taking responsibility for everyday tasks. They developed stronger organisational habits, showed improved time awareness and demonstrated growing independence when preparing for activities and meeting responsibilities. They particularly enjoyed goal setting and using planning tools, and became more confident when adapting to unexpected changes. Their progress reflected increased self-management, responsibility and confidence across many areas of daily life.

Looking Ahead

Consider what you would like to explore next year.

You might think about:

  • new interests

  • new experiences

  • further challenges

  • developing confidence

  • increasing independence

You may wish to explore:

  • more advanced project planning and leadership opportunities

  • increased responsibility for managing personal schedules and commitments

  • developing organisational skills within work, volunteering or community activities

Remember that development is a journey rather than a destination.

The aim is not to achieve perfection, but to continue providing meaningful opportunities for growth, enjoyment and discovery.

Parent Reassurance

Every child develops differently. This Summary Badge is an opportunity to celebrate progress, not perfection.

By reflecting on your child's experiences and achievements, you are creating a valuable record of their educational journey and recognising learning that has taken place throughout everyday life.

The goal is not to compare your child to others. The goal is to recognise, record and celebrate growth.
